Back-focus Back-focus is a procedure of adjusting the physical position of the CCD-chip/lens to achieve the correct focus for all focal length settings. This is critical to achieve quality video images under varying lighting conditions.

BNC BNC stands for Bayonet-Neil-Concelman connector, and it is the "standard" connector in CCTV and broadcast TV for transmitting a basic bandwidth video signal over a coaxial cable. It can also be used as abbreviations for British Naval Connector or Bayonet Nut Connector.

Bandwidth The number of bits used to transmit data. For consistency, here are the most common bandwidth units:

· bps – bits per second, also known as baud

· kbps – kilobits per second

· Mbps – Megabits per second

· Gbps – Gigabits per second

· KB – kilobyte

· MB – megabyte

· GB – gigabyte

Back Light Compensation (BLC) Selectively amplifies parts of the image to compensate for large contrast differences when only a portion of the image is brightly lit (e.g. a person in a sunlit doorway).

Balun (Balance Unbalanced) A device that converts a balanced video signal (e.g. as used on twisted pair) line to an unbalanced signal (e.g. as used on coax). In a balanced line, such as twisted pair, both wires are electrically equal. In an unbalanced line such as coax, one line has different electrical properties than the other.

Bilinx (Bosch AutoDome) A communications format that allows remote control, configuration and updates to be performed over the video cable (Coax or Passive UTP).

Bi-Phase (Bosch AutoDome) Pan/Tilt/Zoom protocol for Bosch products.
